The Mission: Prevention Education for Children, Youth and Young Adults is a faith-based charitable
organization begun in 2002, registered with the State of Michigan and headquartered in the city of Southfield.
While The Mission is not a religious organization, it was a result of faith in God and the choice of goals that magnify
Him, that this organization was founded. It has been by faith that the organization has grown and expanded, and has
been able to provide a host of much-needed services within a service delivery area that spans Wayne, Oakland and
Macomb Counties. It is by expectation, the process of "holding on to hope," that The Mission has sustained itself
and grown during some of the worst economic times this country has faced.
The Mission's services include direct counseling, support groups, and programs which facilitate inner healing for the
survivors of domestic violence and crime, youth in need of mentoring, and parents in need of support that enhances
their effectiveness. The success of The Mission's services is directly attributable to the agency's commitment to
restoring the entire person physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Too often simple problem resolution is
not enough; there must be a complete healing of the individual if hopeless is to be overcome.
In 2002, Evangelist Nedra Lucas began this journey of hope, using her personal funds to found “The Mission"
for the purpose of providing services to assist families and individual family members victimized by
domestic/sexual violence and crime. Today, Nedra Lucas serves the community as the Executive Director of The
Mission. She works with a part-time staff of 6 people, a dedicated board of 12 representatives from the
community, and has be able to facilitate some level of support to over 12,000 citizens.
The Mission’s network of supporters, community volunteers, donors and business advisors, have consistently
provided financial and in-kind contributions to the agency’s three main program: Rebuilding Lives Educational
Program, the Beating Odds Youth Mentoring Program, and the Parenting Enrichment Classes. And now, the
supporters are rallying behind Mrs. Lucas' efforts to address the issues that lie at the heart of bullying among
our young females. The network of supporters are recognized each year at The Mission's Annual Gala.
Funding has been sought and received from a host of major foundations as a result of The Mission’s ability to
demonstrate sustainability and growth. Past and current corporate and foundation Grantors include:
MISSION STATEMENT: To share healthful information as organized subject matter that is
usable, factual and pertains to the problems, issues and practices that affect our physical,
emotional, social, and spiritual well-being; to promote respect and interest in good health.

The Board, staff and volunteers are made up of
people from all walks of life--doctors, teachers,
college students, housewives, retirees, and even
police officers. The organization's network includes
and involves local government, faith-based
institutions, public and private schools, and
community- based organizations and/or groups.
Many times the people who work to carry out the
objectives of The Mission are individuals who
understand what hopelessness feels like. They have
walked around in the same shoes as the one who
feels misunderstood and have been slighted or
abused and victimized, and have continued on to
achieve both professional and personal goals. And
so, they understand what it takes to "hold onto hope."
