You Should Know...
Emotional Abuse:
Withholding love, words
of acceptance, attention.
Love is based on
performance.
Physical Abuse:
People who have been
physically abused often
become abusers
themselves because of
unforgiveness.
Mental Abuse:
Mental abuse is not
talked about as much as
the other forms of abuse
but is the worst type of
abuse because it gives
someone else control
over what you are
thinking and feeling.
Economic Abuse:
Controlling household
finances, withholding
money and/or info about
income and assets.
BEATING ODDS YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM
The youth mentoring program addresses the issues surrounding violence that are most
relevant to youth. The program works to determine solutions youth can use to confront
or defend oneself against aggression--and provides steps a troubled youth can perform
to avoid the use of violence. All resolutions and solutions are ones to which youth can
comfortably commit. Peer-to-peer dialoguing is facilitated in a classroom setting by
trained community members who provide one-on-one mentoring as needed.
PARENTING ENRICHMENT CLASSES
The Parenting Enrichment Class promotes the development of healthy and life-affirming
values, knowledge and interaction between young adults and their children. The program
curriculum is presented using culturally and spiritually sensitive approaches, approaches
essential to strengthening the family unit. The subject matter is valuable to individuals,
support groups, foster care workers and caregivers.
THE MISSION offers 3 core programs... with components and features that can stand alone or be combined with other programs for beneficial and maximum impact.
